The Mozart city of Salzburg is the start and finish of this popular round-trip bike tour along the wonderful Tauern Cycle Path. On slightly hilly, family-friendly cycle paths along the Salzach and Saalach, the beauties and magic of the Salzburg region open up to you. On this bike tour you will see unique forces of nature, from the roaring Krimml waterfalls, the highest in Europe, to the famous holiday resort of Zell am See Kaprun with the Kitzsteinhorn glacier.

How to Arrive

Individual arrival in Salzburg and check-in at the hotel. Explore the world-famous old town of Salzburg, e.g. Mozart's birthplace, Hohensalzburg fortress and Mirabell Palace.

Salzburg - Bischofshofen/St. John, about 50-60 km

Your Tauern Cycle Path tour begins along the Salzach River, leading to Hallein, where the Salzwelten show mine is well worth a visit. The Tauern Cycle Path then continues to Golling, where you can admire the Golling Waterfalls. Passing the imposing Hohenwerfen Castle, you'll cycle to either Bischofshofen (Category B) or St. Johann im Pongau (Category A), depending on your chosen hotel category.

Bischofshofen/St. Johann - Zell am See/Kaprun, approx. 40 - 55 km

Via Bruck at the foot of the Großglockner, Austria's highest mountain, you cycle on to the famous holiday resort of Zell am See. Here you can enjoy a refreshing dip in Lake Zell and the view of the white glacier of the Kitzsteinhorn. Overnight in Piesendorf / Zell am See or Kaprun.

Excursion to Krimml, approx. 60 km or around Lake Zell

Today you can take a train trip to Europe's largest waterfall, the famous Krimml Waterfalls. The return journey by bike takes you from village to village through the beautiful Pinzgau region. Alternatively, you can cycle around Lake Zell and enjoy magnificent views of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier (approx. 15 km).

Zell am See/Kaprun - Lofer, approx. 50 km

Today's tour takes you on the Tauern cycle path through the idyllic village of Maria Alm with the famous pilgrimage church via Saalfelden towards Lofer. The natural attractions Seisenbergklamm, one of the most beautiful gorges in Austria, and the Lamprechtshöhle are worthwhile detours.

Lofer - Salzburg, approx. 50 km

The final leg of the journey leads through the tranquil Saalachtal valley. The spa town of Bad Reichenhall, nestled in the "little German corner," enchants visitors with its Bavarian charm. Learn more about salt production on a guided tour of the Old Salt Works (entrance included). The route then continues across the expansive plains of the Salzburg Basin back to your starting point in Salzburg. Just outside Salzburg, you can visit the famous Hellbrunn Palace with its magnificent trick fountains.
