DESCRIPTION:

Discover the most famous highlights of the beautiful Salzkammergut by bike! Starting from the imperial city of Bad Ischl, on this sporty round trip you will experience Salzkammergut cycle path a unique, magnificent mountain and lake landscape, picturesque bathing lakes and historical sights. From the turquoise Attersee it goes via the Mondsee to the fjord-like Traunsee and the well-known Wolfgangsee. And as the grand finale, explore the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hallstatt, a spectacular combination of nature and history. Since around 500 meters in altitude have to be overcome every day, e-bikes are recommended for leisure cyclists.

Bad Ischl - Weißenbachtal - Mondsee approx. 45 km

Starting in Bad Ischl, you head north into the wildly romantic Weißenbach Valley. The route takes you through nature to the southern end of the turquoise-green Lake Attersee. Enjoy the magnificent mountain panorama, visit a lakeside beach, and refresh yourself on a restaurant terrace. Afterwards, you cycle to Lake Mondsee, mostly directly along the lakeshore, to the town of Mondsee with its famous basilica. Elevation gain/loss: 440 / 360 m

Mondsee - Attersee - Gmunden am Traunsee - Ebensee approx. 50 km

Your bike tour today takes you to the three largest lakes in the Salzkammergut region. Starting in Mondsee, the route climbs to the wooded hills of the Attergau. You'll then reach Lake Attersee again, the town of Seewalchen with its Gustav Klimt Museum. Take a relaxing break, perhaps at the Litzlberg lido. The Salzkammergut Cycle Path then leads you to the picturesque ceramics town of Gmunden on Lake Traunsee. Stroll to the famous Seeschloss Ort (Ort Castle) before ending the day with a leisurely boat trip to Ebensee. Elevation gain/loss: 710/830m

Ebensee - Bad Ischl - St. Wolfgang - Strobl approx. 43km,

Cycling along the world's oldest operating brine pipeline, you'll return to Bad Ischl, following the Traun River upstream. After a refreshing break, you'll reach the famous Wolfgangsee lake and the town of St. Wolfgang with its renowned White Horse Inn. After exploring the town, you'll cross the lake by bicycle ferry and arrive at your destination for the day, Strobl. Elevation gain/loss: 300/160m

Strobl - Bad Goisern - Hallstatt - Bad Ischl approx. 70 km

Past Ischl's local mountain, the Katrin, you pass the pilgrimage towns of Lauffen and Bad Goisern, known for their handicrafts. A little further you reach the spectacular Lake Hallstatt, which offers wonderful views. Partly over suspension bridges over the water, you finally cycle to the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage town of Hallstatt. After exploring the town, take the ferry back to the east bank and cycle back to Bad Ischl. Ascent/descent: 490/570m
