Starting in Salzburg, this circular tour takes you through the beautiful Austrian lake district of the Salzkammergut region to Lake Wolfgang, Lake Traun, and Lake Attersee. This popular cycling route also connects attractions such as the Mozart village of St. Gilgen, the Schlosshotel Ort in Gmunden, and the imperial city of Bad Ischl. With approximately 35-70 kilometers per stage, there's plenty of time for swimming in the lakes and exploring the sights. A varied and memorable cycling tour along the Salzkammergut Cycle Path.

You start your tour on the Salzkammergut Cycle Path and cycle via Eugendorf to Thalgau, continuing along the breathtaking Drachenwand mountain to Lake Mondsee. Soon, views of Lake Wolfgangsee open up from Scharfling, and you enjoy a pleasant descent to the Mozart village of St. Gilgen on Lake Wolfgangsee.

From Lake Wolfgangsee to Lake Traunsee, approx. 50 km

After a detour to the well-known St. Wolfgang, a longer stop in Bad Ischl, the European Capital of Culture for 2024, is well worth it. This imperial city was once the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph and enchants visitors with its culinary delights and history. Continue your journey along the Traun River, framed by the Höllengebirge mountains, and experience the fjord-like scenery around Lake Traunsee with its picturesque Ort Castle.

From Traunsee to Attersee, approx. 35 km

Today, discover the renowned ceramics town of Gmunden and take time to visit Ort Castle and the beautiful lakeside promenade. Literature enthusiasts can visit the Thomas Bernhard House in Ohlsdorf. Continue cycling through the Aurach Valley to your destination for the day, the turquoise waters of Lake Attersee.

From Lake Attersee to the Salzburg Lake District, approx. 70 km

Your route on the Salzkammergut Cycle Path today takes you from Lake Attersee through a 2 km long narrow valley back to Lake Mondsee. You cycle along the northern shore to the picturesque lakeside town of Mondsee. Particularly worth seeing are the prehistoric pile dwellings and the collegiate church. Afterwards, you pass the unspoiled Lake Irrsee and finally reach the Trumer Lake District, with Lake Mattsee and Lake Oberturner.
