Vrhnika - Postojna, approx. 45 km

The Slovenian karst landscape is unique, especially due to its rare limestone formations. After a 200-meter climb, you'll cycle along side roads and through scenic karst fields. Visit the impressive Rakov Škocjan Nature Reserve (a 10-km detour) or Predjama Castle with its natural caves and rock bridges before reaching the world-famous Postojna Valley.

Postojna - Stanjel, approx. 35 km

Postojna boasts a unique natural wonder: the second largest cave system in the world! Allow 2 to 3 hours to explore this 24-kilometer-long cave system. Also worth seeing is Predjama Castle (+6 km), a medieval castle built into the rock. The best way to sample the region's finest wines is in the evening at your host's farm.

Stanjel - Lipica - Divaca, approx. 50 km

Today's cycling stage of the Emerald Route takes you up to a karst plateau (approx. 600m) through sleepy villages and along inviting vineyards to Lipica. It is the home of the world-famous white Lipizzaner horses, whose stud farm you can visit.

Divaca - Trieste - Muggia, approx. 40 km

After a short climb, it's a real downhill ride! Enjoy the magnificent coastal panorama as you cycle towards the Adriatic Sea, all the way to the Italian border. The former Austro-Hungarian port city of Trieste is just a few kilometers away and well worth a visit, whether for a stroll along the harbor or a cappuccino in a piazza. Tonight's accommodation is in Muggia, Italy, where you can savor Italian cuisine.
