DESCRIPTION:

From Europe's highest waterfalls, the longest castle in the world to the largest river in Western Europe. On this cross-border cycling trip on the Tauern Cycle Path, one highlight follows the other: you start at the roaring Krimml Waterfalls, cycle past the crystal-clear Lake Zell and enjoy the view of the Hohe Tauern mountain backdrop and the scenic beauty of the Salzburger Land. On slightly hilly, family-friendly cycle paths along the Saalach and Salzach you will soon reach the Mozart city of Salzburg. In the border area of ​​Bavaria and Upper Austria the landscape becomes gentler and the cycle tour takes you comfortably along the Inn cycle path past Burghausen and the spa town of Bad Füssing to the three-river city of Passau on the Danube.

How to reach it

Individual arrival to Krimml and check-in at the hotel. The booked rental bikes will be issued in Passau and a transfer for a fee will take you to the start in Krimml. Explore the world-famous Krimml Waterfalls, with a height of 385m they are the highest in Europe.

Krimml - Zell am See/Kaprun - approx. 65km

From Krimml you cycle alongside the mighty “mountain backdrop of the Hohe Tauern” to Bramberg. The local history museum in the main town of Mittersill is worth a visit. Further to Uttendorf you reach the European sports region of Zell am See/Kaprun, with picturesque views of Lake Zell and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier.

Zell am See/Kaprun - Lofer, approx. 45 km

Today's tour takes you on the Tauern cycle path through the idyllic village of Maria Alm with the famous pilgrimage church via Saalfelden towards Lofer. The natural attractions Seisenbergklamm, one of the most beautiful gorges in Austria, and the Lamprechtshöhle are worthwhile detours.

Lofer - Salzburg, approx. 45 km

After leaving the upper Salzach Valley, you cycle along the Saalach over the “green border” to Bad Reichenhall in Bavaria and on to the Mozart city of Salzburg, which vividly presents the stories of the last centuries with countless monuments. The cultural city of Salzburg is best known for the virtuoso Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose birthplace is on Getreidegasse.

Salzburg - Burghausen, approx. 55 km

You cycle along the Salzach bank path to Oberndorf, which is famous for its “Silent Night” chapel. We continue on the Tauern cycle path along the Salzach via St. Radegund to the Bavarian town of Burghausen, where you should definitely pay a visit to the longest castle in the world (1.051m). There is a mysterious moorland nearby that invites you to take a healing bath.

Burghausen-Bad Füssing, approx. 55 km

You cycle through the Weilhartsforst to the Inn-Salzach view to Braunau am Inn. Driving along the banks of the Inn, you come to the Lower Inn European Reserve, a bird and nature reserve. Today's bike tour continues to the well-known Bavarian spa town of Bad Füssing. Take advantage of the diverse offerings and relax in one of the spacious thermal baths (some open until 22.00 p.m.).

Bad Füssing - Passau, approx. 40 km

Passing Reichersberg Abbey you will soon reach the Upper Austrian baroque town of Schärding, where you should take a break on its beautiful main square. You continue cycling along the Inn to the three-river city of Passau. The old town of Passau impresses with many sights, for example the Three Rivers boat tour is recommended.
