DESCRIPTION:

Experience varied cycling days in the border triangle of Carinthia - Slovenia - Italy. Well-marked cycle paths lead from Villach in all directions. On the big cycling star tour of Villach, simply choose from our tried and tested tour suggestions according to your mood.

 

By train, increase your radius of discovery: the journey there or back to Klagenfurt and Spittal/Drau is easily done with the S-Bahn and you have time to see the famous Wörthersee and the wonderful lake Drau cycle path to explore. An absolute highlight is a bike ride on the Ciclovia Alpe-Adria cycle path to Tarvisio in Italy. A trip around the nearby Lake Faak and Lake Ossiach shouldn't be missed. In the evening, enjoy the Mediterranean-inspired old town of Villach or relax in a thermal spa at the nearby Warmbad Villach (one-time admission included).

Ossiacher See tour, approx. 42 km

Our first tour suggestion takes you over the Seebach to the deep green Ossiacher See, past the most beautiful place in Austria, the Landskron castle ruins. There are numerous sights around the lake worth visiting: Ossiach Abbey, the Bleistätter Moor nature reserve or the architectural jewel Domenig Steinhaus.

Drau cycle path to Spittal / Drau, approx. 41 km - 51 km

Take the train to the district town of Spittal/Drau (ticket included with the Villach Adventure Card, bicycles extra). There you can visit the Renaissance Castle Porcia or make a detour to the nearby Lake Millstatt (+10km). The Drau Cycle Path then takes you comfortably along the river bank back to Villach.

On the Wörthersee cycle path to Klagenfurt, approx. 43 km

Today you can take a trip to the famous Wörthersee via the Drau cycle path. Plan a break in Velden and stroll along the beach promenade to the famous castle. On the Wörthersee cycle path you go via Pörtschach, where you can refresh yourself in a beach, on to the Carinthian state capital Klagenfurt. You can comfortably return to Villach by train (ticket included, bikes extra).

Faaker See tour, approx. 30 km

Finally, circle the beautiful turquoise-green Lake Faak with its characteristic island. You shouldn't miss out on bathing fun, be it in a lido or at a public lake access. You cycle back to the hotel via the Maria Gail pilgrimage site.

Alpe-Adria cycle path to Tarvisio, approx. 47 - 68 km

You should not miss a trip to Italy. You can easily cover the climb to the Austrian border town of Arnoldstein by train (ticket not included). After a refreshment with Italian specialties in Tarvisio, cycle comfortably back along the Ciclovia Alpe-Adria cycle path.
