DESCRIPTION:

The unique Ciclovia Alpe-Adria cycle path is an unforgettable experience. On your journey from the Alps to the Adriatic Sea, you'll enjoy a diverse landscape full of contrasts. From Villach in Carinthia, you'll soon cross the border into Italy and cycle partly along old railway lines through the magnificent, pristine Friulian Alps. You'll cycle through the picturesque cities of Udine and Palmanova, passing the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Aquileia, and then on to the sea, to the miles of sandy beaches of the famous seaside resort of Grado.

GETTING THERE:

Individual arrival in Villach; very easy to reach by train.
From May 3rd, 2026 to September 27th, 2026, every Saturday and Sunday, for groups of 2 or more people.

Individual arrival in Villach and check-in at the hotel. Explore the charming old town of Carinthia's cycling capital or, for example, take a swimming trip to the nearby turquoise-green Faaker See.

Villach - Tarvisio, approx. 40 km

Cycling idyllically along the Gail River, you'll soon say goodbye to Austria and hello to Bella Italia. The border town of Tarvisio lies at the border triangle of Italy, Austria, and Slovenia and forms the center of the Val Canale. Enjoy Friulian specialties in one of the numerous restaurants in this popular winter sports resort.

Tarvisio - Venzone/Gemona, approx. 50-60 km

The Alpe-Adria Cycle Route now follows abandoned railway lines through the beautiful Friulian Alps, with its intact, untouched nature and extensive forests. Discover the picturesque old towns of Venzone and Gemona, both destroyed in an earthquake and lovingly rebuilt.

Venzone/Gemona - Udine, approx. 40-50 km

The landscape gradually becomes gentler, and you cycle via Gemona del Friuli to the charming city of Udine. The old town, with its Venetian influences, exudes peace and tranquility. Enjoying a coffee in the piazza or strolling through the city center, you can admire important buildings from the late Gothic and Renaissance periods.

Udine - Palmanova - Aquileia - Grado, approx. 55 km

Often accompanied by a gentle sirocco breeze, you'll cycle past shipping lanes and canals. Passing through the unique, star-shaped city of Palmanova and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Aquileia, you'll reach your destination: the historic fishing town of Grado. With its wide sandy beaches and beautiful lagoon landscapes, Grado is one of the most popular seaside resorts on the Adriatic coast.

Grado: Rest day on Meet or Cultural Day Aquileia

This day is at your disposal and you have the choice: a sightseeing day following in the footsteps of the ancient Romans in Aquileia is an option, or a relaxing day at the seaside, which you can spend in a deckchair or with a bike trip through the lagoon.
