DESCRIPTION:

This varied cycling tour takes you from the city of Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart, along the Salzkammergut Cycle Path to the most beautiful lakes of the Salzburg region in one week. From Lake Wolfgang to Lake Mondsee, Lake Wallersee, and Lake Obetrum, this circular tour has much to offer: a sporting experience, stunning scenery, and numerous cultural highlights around the former imperial summer residence of Bad Ischl. The partly hilly landscape results in approximately 300 meters of elevation gain per day.

Arrival to Salzburg

Individual arrival in Salzburg and check-in at the hotel. Receipt of travel documents and rental bikes (if booked). The day is at your leisure to visit the beautiful old town of Salzburg.

Salzburg - Thalgau, approx. 23 - 40 km

Enjoy a leisurely start to your cycling tour on the Salzkammergut Cycle Path (R2) along the former Ischl railway line towards Eugendorf and on to Thalgau, the gateway to the Salzkammergut region. Depending on your mood, we recommend a side trip from Thalgau to nearby Lake Fuschl (approx. 20 km round trip).

Thalgau - Mondsee - Wolfgangsee - Bad Ischl, approx. 43 km

From Thalgau, cycle through a wooded area to St. Lorenz on Lake Mondsee. Here, you can take your first break with a view of the famous Drachenwand mountain. Continue over the Scharfling Pass (a short climb) to the Mozart village of St. Gilgen and the renowned Lake Wolfgang. Enjoy a swim in the crystal-clear water before cycling along the lakeside path via Strobl to the former imperial city of Bad Ischl. Explore the spa gardens and the Imperial Villa, and visit the famous Zauner confectionery.

Bad Ischl - Wolfgangsee - Mondsee, approx. 38 km

Your bike tour takes you back to Lake Wolfgang, where today's itinerary includes the idyllic town of St. Wolfgang. Afterwards, you'll cross the lake by boat and return to St. Gilgen. Returning via Scharfling, past the picturesque Krottensee, you'll reach Lake Mondsee and cycle along the lakeshore towards the town of Mondsee. Relax in the crystal-clear water or on the lakeside promenade.

Mondsee - Irrsee - Seekirchen am Wallersee, approx. 37 km

In Mondsee, not only is the magnificent abbey church worth a visit, but also the open-air museum with its smokehouse and farm museum. Today, the Salzkammergut Cycle Path takes you onward to the Irrsee, a moorland lake that is also perfect for swimming, and then on to Seekirchen am Wallersee.

Wallersee - Mattsee - Obertrumer See - Seeham, approx. 34 km

Mattsee and Obetrumer See are the two lakes on today's cycling itinerary. Passing through the small farming village of Schleedorf, you'll soon reach Mattsee, and cycling around it will take you partly across the German border. Tonight's accommodation is in Seeham on the shores of Obertrumer See, whose clear, warm waters are perfect for swimming and relaxation.

Today we first follow the lakeshore via Oberndorf back to Salzburg on the Mozart cycle path. The world-famous Christmas carol “Silent Night, Holy Night” was performed for the first time in Oberndorf in 1818 and the well-known Silent Night Chapel can be visited. You cycle comfortably back to Salzburg along the Salzach.
