DESCRIPTION:
Follow the Drava River as it transforms from a small mountain stream in South Tyrol (Italy) into a wide, turquoise-green river. On this magnificent week-long Drava Cycle Path tour, you'll experience a fascinating contrast between alpine mountain panoramas and the gentle lake landscape of southern Carinthia. Starting in Sillian in East Tyrol, you'll cycle along the Drava Cycle Path, mostly right next to the river, past imposing mountains and through charming towns like Lienz, Spittal an der Drau, and Villach. The route continues along scenic dike paths through the unspoiled Rosental Valley to one of the warmest bathing lakes in Europe, where a full day of relaxation is included.

Day 2, excursion to Toblach in South Tyrol/Italy (approx. 55 km, ascent 350 m)
Start your cycling tour with a bike ride to the source of the Drava River in Toblach, South Tyrol, Italy. After 10 km on the Dolomite Cycle Path, passing Lake Toblach, you'll reach a viewpoint overlooking the world-famous Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Three Peaks). These striking rock towers are a symbol of South Tyrol and, due to their exceptional beauty, are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy an Italian lunch and then cycle back to Sillian.

Day 3, Sillian - Berg im Drautal (A)/Oberdrauburg (B), approx. 64/51 km
Accompanied by the magnificent mountain panorama of the Dolomites, you'll cycle along the Drava Cycle Path today to Lienz, the largest town in East Tyrol. Take some time for a break in this charming town and enjoy the lively atmosphere. Refreshed, you'll continue your journey and cross the border into Carinthia shortly after Nikolsdorf.

Day 4, Berg im Drautal (A)/Oberdrauburg (B) - Spittal/Drau, approx. 64/51 km
Following the Upper Drava Valley, you'll cycle partly along the riverbank and partly through small villages. In Spittal/Drau, the Renaissance Porcia Castle is particularly worth a visit. Those feeling adventurous can also take a short trip to Seeboden on the nearby, beautiful Lake Millstatt (approx. 10 km round trip, extra).

Day 5, Spittal/Drau - Villach - Rosegg/Velden (B/A), approx. 57 km
The Drau Cycle Path leads you today to the center of Villach, a city with a southern flair. Take a break and experience the lively city with a leisurely coffee in the main square. Afterwards, the route continues past the small bathing lake Silbersee to Rosegg. There you can visit Carinthia's largest zoo or take a detour to the nearby popular resort town of Velden am Wörthersee (approx. 10 km round trip).

Day 6 Rosegg/Velden (B/A) - Klopeiner See, approx. 62 km
Enjoy the impressive Drava River landscape as you cycle along scenic paths through the beautiful Rosental valley. With the Karawanken mountains as a backdrop, you'll pass a large Drava reservoir and reach the gunsmithing town of Ferlach. From there, the route continues directly to Lake Klopein, one of the warmest bathing lakes in Europe. Relax upon arrival and experience the excellent water quality.

Day 7, Lake Klopein - a day for swimming and relaxing
Today you can enjoy a relaxing day swimming at Lake Klopein. Alternatively, you can take shorter bike rides in the southern Carinthia region to the surrounding smaller lakes or to the Völkermarkt reservoir (approx. 15 to 28 km).
