DESCRIPTION:

Sporty cyclists will be enthusiastic about this cross-border cycle tour on the wonderful Drau Cycle Path. In just 5 days of cycling you will experience wonderful landscapes, from the Alps in East Tyrol and Upper Carinthia, through the gentle mountain and lake landscape of South Carinthia to the hilly wine region around Maribor. The Austrian route from Sillian to Lavamünd is very well developed and paved almost throughout. The Slovenian section of the Drau (Drava) enchants above all with its scenic charms and quiet and secluded villages. On the last, demanding day's stage in Slovenia, you will drive partly on side roads, unpaved paths and briefly on busy roads. There are also numerous ascents and descents of around 1.000 meters in altitude to overcome.

If today's stage is too short for you, you can take a detour after Villach to the famous Lake Wörthersee and visit the popular resort town of Velden. The route then continues through the scenic Rosental valley, home to the Carnica bee, to the gunsmithing town of Ferlach. There, you can take a trip to the impressive Tscheppaschlucht gorge (approx. 15 km).

Today, the Drau Cycle Path leads you through the lower, unspoiled Rosental valley, following paths along the riverbank. For your lunch break, we recommend a detour to Lake Klopein, the warmest bathing lake in Europe. Enjoy a relaxing swim before passing the large Völkermarkt Reservoir and beginning the final stretch to Lavamünd on the Slovenian border.
