DESCRIPTION:

This Drau Cycle Path journey takes you from one regional culinary specialty to the next. Thanks to the influences of the Alpe-Adria region in the border triangle of Austria, Italy and Slovenia, Carinthian cuisine has its own unmistakable character. In addition, Carinthia has many slow food restaurants that refine and offer regional products of the highest quality.

They start on Drau cycle path in Lienz in East Tyrol with traditional specialties such as Schlipfkrapfen, taste Carinthian Kasnudln in the Drautal and enjoy a Reinanke or the trout species Carinthian Laxn on a fine lake terrace of Lake Millstatt or the fashionable Wörthersee. The Italian influence is becoming increasingly noticeable with antipasti, pasta, polenta, calamari and pinot grigio. And in between there is always a rustic Carinthian Buschenschank, where you can taste succulent bread, homemade spreads, bacon and sausages straight from the farmer. To sweeten the bike tour, a € 20 voucher for the Drauradwegwirte is included in the price.

Lienz - Berg im Drautal, approx. 35 km - Drautal meat fritters

You start your bike tour on the beautiful Drau cycle path with a wonderful view of the mountains of the Lienz Dolomites. On the outskirts of Lienz, the Roman Museum Aguntum attracts visitors, presenting the history of the old Roman settlement in an attractive way. On the way you can make a detour to the herb village of Irschen. At the end of your stage in the mountains, we recommend trying Drautal meat fritters.

Berg im Drautal - Spittal/Drau, approx. 40 km - Carinthian Kasnudeln

Following the upper Drautal, you ride partly along the river bank and partly a bit off the beaten path through small villages. At the stage destination Spittal/Drau you should take the time for a city tour, especially the Renaissance castle of Porcia is worth a visit. For dinner today we recommend THE Carinthian specialty, Carinthian Kasnudel.

Millstätter See - round trip approx. 39 km - Reinanke

From Spittal/Drau we head to the nearby Millstätter See. In Seeboden you switch to the Millstätter See cycle path and cycle directly along the natural lake shore to Döbriach, where you should have a drink in the See Lounge or at a lido. On the way back, the main town of Millstatt lures with a monastery worth seeing, cool lakeside terraces and fresh fish, the Millstätter See Reinanken.

We continue on the Drau Cycle Path, mostly on the natural riverbank. Halfway, in Feistritz, you can take a break at a nice snack bar with its own fruit press and taste Carinthian delicacies from the farmer. Arrived in Villach, the well-preserved town center with its cafés and shops invites you to stroll and linger. The proximity to Italy can be clearly felt, many Italian dishes have found their way into the city's kitchens. The Küchenkult restaurants offer special quality. And what you should also try: original Villach beer

Today you spend at the most famous Carinthian bathing lake, the Wörthersee. Cycle first to Velden and stroll along the beach promenade to the famous Schlosshotel and treat yourself to a break in one of the beach cafés and an original Italian gelati. From a culinary point of view, we recommend a fish, a herb char or a Kärntna Laxn, enjoyed on a lake terrace.
