Discover the Carinthian Way of St. James on a delightful pilgrimage through the picturesque Drava Valley. This introductory package takes you on five varied stages from Villach to Oberdrauburg and offers the perfect introduction to the world of pilgrimage. The return journey to Villach can be made by train from Oberdrauburg.

Parking spaces:
Parking at the hotel costs approximately €15 per day. Public parking garage costs approximately €5 per day. Free parking is available in a public, unguarded parking lot.

Day 1: Individual arrival

Individual arrival in Villach and check-in at the hotel. If you arrive early, we recommend exploring Villach's charming old town and enjoying a drink in the main square.
Also visit St. Jakob Church – a free tower tour is included with the Villach Adventure Card.

Day 2: Villach - Paternion, approx. 30 km

The first stage of the Way of St. James leads from Villach along the Drava, the largest river in the Southern Alps, through the diverse landscape of the lower Drava Valley. Forests, meadows, and small villages alternate along the way. Paternion is an ideal stopover for pilgrims heading towards Upper Carinthia.

Day 3: Paternion - Spittal an der Drau, approx. 24 km

This stage leads through the upper Drava Valley and offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Pilgrims travel along quiet paths and through well-kept villages to Spittal an der Drau. The town is known for the magnificent Renaissance Porcia Castle and its role as a gateway to Upper Carinthia.

Day 4: Spittal an der Drau – Sachsenburg, approx. 23 km

From Spittal, the Way of St. James continues along the Drava River through an open cultural landscape. Small churches, historic wayside crosses, traditional farmhouses, and the well-known Roman archaeological site of Teurnia line the route. Sachsenburg, once an important trading center on the Drava, welcomes pilgrims with its historic town center and long regional history.

Day 5: Sachsenburg - Berg/Oberdrauburg approx. 31 km

The final stage leads through the upper Drava Valley towards Oberdrauburg. Passing Berg im Drautal, an impressive panorama of the Gailtal Alps and the Kreuzeck Group opens up. Oberdrauburg forms an atmospheric endpoint of the Carinthian Way of St. James and also marks the border to East Tyrol.

Day 6: Departure

Individual departure after breakfast and return to Villach.
